赤湖村位于石狮市北部，村内有赤湖、山兜、前厝三个自然村。村名与古时一片湖泊有关。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

古时有几条溪水在此汇聚，积成湖泽，后来成为湖泊。湖水混浊而发红，因此称为「赤湖」；雅称「紫湖」，寓意紫气东来。[2]

地理环境[edit]

山兜自然村因村庄三面环山而得名，北面依白石山，现有人口500余人。[3]

前厝自然村旧址位于山兜前面的一处小山包下，交通闭塞，曾被列为重点扶贫村。1993年1月，全村迁入新居。[3]

文化[edit]

1990年，旅菲华侨捐建了紫湖小学。[3]

村里先后获得石狮市文明村的荣誉（2013—2015年度、2016—2018年度、2019—2021年度），并于2021年度获祥芝镇先进基层党组织称号。[1]
