水头村是蚶江镇下辖的行政村，位于泉州湾南岸的滨海地带，镇政府驻地西南约3.5公里。村名来自村落位于水流之首，村民以王姓为主，滩涂养殖是主要生计。[1][2]

地名与历史沿革[edit]

古时注入泉州湾的水可经过本村，村落居于水流的起点，因而得名水头。[1][3]

宋时归安仁乡江阴里，元明清时隶二十三都。1949年归永宁区，1952年划入双湖区，此后1956年隶属莲塘乡，1958年成立水头大队，1984年改为水头村委会。[1]

人口与村情[edit]

据2025年8月公布的村情信息，全村外来人口2540人左右，户籍人口6881人；住户1735户，村民小组23个，村民代表73人。全村拥有土地1500多亩，滩涂1万余亩，辖区内企业近60家。[2]

从事滩涂养殖业的村民占80％。[2]

人物[edit]

王汉杰（1917年至2008年）生于本村。他1933年赴菲律宾谋生；抗战爆发后的1937年，在当地参与华侨的抗日救国活动；1938年入党，1939年归国加入新四军。[1]
