港塘村是灵秀镇下辖的行政村，村名与旧时村前通往泉州湾的港道有关，村中现存南宋时建造的普利大通桥中亭。[1][2]

地名由来[edit]

村前旧有一条港道通往泉州湾。村西侧有泉州南门外的七首塘之一「洑田塘」，因此取名「港塘」。[2]

村落与姓氏[edit]

早年村中的聚落有里透、后垵、东庭、乡官厝，另有欧厝、庄厝、黄厝、蔡厝等。后来欧阳、庄、黄、蔡等姓多迁离，今村中以陈、张、王三姓为主。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

港塘村在明清时期属十九都，民国时隶属石狮镇港塘保。新中国成立后，村里经过合作社阶段；1958年成立生产大队，1984年由大队改为村，1990年隶属石狮街道办事处。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

港塘境内有普利大通桥，南宋绍兴十二年（1142年）修建，全桥共157个桥孔。抗日战争时期，当局担心日军深入内地，毁坏了桥身，此后石料被搬走，大桥无存，只余桥上的中亭。[2]
