1994年10月设立时，村名因紧靠灵秀山而定。[1]

自然村[edit]

赤坑村前有一片低洼的坑地，村后有一小块赤土埔，村因此得名，雅称「策卿」。[1]

水坑这一名称来自村中常年积水的低洼坑地，先人在坑边定居，于是有了此名。[1]

荣誉[edit]

灵山村于2022年10月经福建省农业农村厅核定，列为「第二批福建省乡村治理示范村镇」。[1]
