新华社区位于石狮市区西南部，是凤里街道下辖的社区。[1]

社区取名“新华”，是为纪念孙中山领导的辛亥革命，民国初年定名。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1993年，为适应城市发展，原片区析分为新华、龙华、华南、华仑四个社区，析分后的新华是石狮市区主要的商业中心。[2]

跃进路原为附近村民买卖牛羊的场所，称牛墟埕。1958年扩建为街道，命名跃进路；后经旧城改造，改名镇中路。[1]

清代在石狮设墟，布墟设于今布墟街一带，商贩在此售卖布匹、茶枯等物，后改建成街。[1]

2021年2月，社区在「福建省2018-2020年度省级文明村镇社区」名单中上榜。[1]

经济[edit]

建兴街为清代商业街，全长约192米，宽8米。1989年一场火灾焚毁数间店面后，建兴街并入新华路，统称新华路，是市区主要的商业街道。[1]
