汤头乡在福建省泉州市德化县西北部，是县辖的乡之一，乡人民政府驻汤头村，距县城约58公里。[1][3]乡内共设七个行政村，依次为吉山、福山、草村、格中、岭脚、汤垵与汤头。[1][4][6]乡境北面与尤溪县接界，西侧与大田县相连。[2][5]地势东南高、西北低：南部的福山村海拔860米，东部的吉山村在900至950米之间，西北的岭脚、汤垵两村则只有330至400米。[2]

“汤头”之名来自境内的温泉：岭脚、汤垵一带都有汤泉，而乡政府所在的汤头村正处在通往这些温泉的要道上。[2]2019年末，全乡户籍人口为9329人。[5]

历史沿革[edit]

“汤头”一名始见于清代设立的汤头社，乡名由此而来。[2]宋代在今岭脚村一带设有汤尾关，明至清代中叶，这里逐渐繁盛；明代宣德七年至正德十一年间，汤头桥亭尾一带曾建炉炼铁。[2]

宋明两代，这片土地归进城乡管辖，分上团与下团两部分；到了清朝，多数地段划入梅上里，少数地段属汤泉里。[2]民国前后乡境并入葛岭乡，1950年起又先后归上涌区与葛坑区管辖。[2]

1961年，乡境由上涌、葛坑两个公社各划出若干大队，另从岭脚分出汤垵大队，组成汤头人民公社；至1984年，才改设为汤头乡。[2]

地理环境[edit]

乡境内千米以上的高山都在南部。[2]气候兼具海洋性与大陆性特点，夏季不酷热，冬季少严寒，雨季与干季分明，无霜期一般在330天左右。[2]

水系方面，岭脚大溪纵贯乡境中部；格中与春美乡交界处有大张溪；发源于吉山的下甸溪向北流入葛坑。[2]山林面积较大，木材主要集中在汤垵、格中、岭脚三村。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

格中村芹菜坑有格中宝峰岩，年代为明代，属古建筑，列为县级文物保护单位。[7]

乡境内已发现明、清时代古窑址13处，在德化古代瓷业的分布中属较集中的地区。[2]

荣誉[edit]

环境保护部于2011年4月把「2011年度国家级生态乡镇」的称号给了本乡。[1]2024年1月，全乡被命名为「2023年福建省卫生乡镇」。[1]
