西山村在南埕镇西北一带。东面是前锋村，西面毗邻溪美村，北边到高漈村为止，南边和龙门滩镇的碧坑村相接。[1] 村名古称狮山，因“西”与“狮”在方言中同音，旧志写作西山。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

明清时期，西山隶属永宁乡嵩平里，村中一带归肖坑社管辖；道光年间，该社改称奎光社。民国时期，村地归西南乡西山保。[3]

1950年代，西山先后隶属第二区与雷峰区，1958年划归雷峰公社，1961年改入高漈公社，1965年转到南埕公社。1984年改设西山村民委员会，1991年乡改镇，村委会划归南埕镇。[3]

地理环境[edit]

全村总面积8.62平方千米，年平均气温约17℃，无霜期230至250天，年降雨量约1750毫米。矿藏以铜、银、锡和叶腊石为主。[2]

人口[edit]

1999年年末全村共1337人，农业人口占93%。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

西山长安堂旧址为明代遗存，列入「第三次全国文物普查不可移动文物名录」，属一般不可移动文物。[4]
