湖前社区即湖前街一带，位于龙浔镇中北部。社区东面是南门街，北面接龙鹏街，西面为丁溪村，南面与丁墘相接。[1]
1996年，原属龙鹏街的这一带另设湖前居委会。[2] 湖前商住区1988年开始动工兴建，商住区的土地原属国营德化农场和丁溪村。[2]
