仙夹镇位于永春县西南部的山区，与南安、安溪两地相邻。这里地面多在五百至七百米的高程之间，空气清爽湿润，气温较县城低两至四度。[1][2]

镇名由仙乡与夹际两地名各取一字而成，别名西向镇。1984年改设为乡，2001年3月撤乡设镇。镇内有碧溪书院、夹际小学旧址和美寨村的灵镇庙三处县级文物保护单位。[1][3][5][6]

历史沿革[edit]

北宋时期永春县分为五乡，此地在元代属集庆乡安平里十二都，民国时期先后归桃林区与街尾区署管辖。1942年改设仙夹乡，1958年随人民公社化并入岵山公社，称仙夹点；1961年自岵山公社划出，另设仙夹人民公社。1984年10月公社改为乡，2001年3月撤乡设镇。[3]

镇名由仙乡与夹际两地名各取一字而成，别名西向镇，因在岵山以西的方位得名。[1]

地理环境[edit]

全镇处于山间谷地之中，地面高程大多在五百至七百米，夏季亦较为清凉，因而气温低于县城两至四度。[2]

关于全镇面积，两处所载不同：博雅地名网记为约31.8平方公里，百度百科记为34.14平方千米，两者均未注明统计年份。[1][4]

人口民族[edit]

按百度百科的记载，2019年末的户籍登记数为14774人。[4]

永春县人民政府2021年公布的各村简介显示，全镇八个行政村的人口从一千余人到三千余人不等。[7]

经济[edit]

据2021年公布的村情简介，东里村盛产芥菜、铁观音、百香果与生姜，美寨村的村民收入则以农业种植、茶叶与畜牧养殖为主。[7]

文化[edit]

2012年12月，本镇获环境保护部颁授「2010—2011年度国家级生态乡镇」称号。2020年12月，仙夹镇被福建省爱卫办评定为「福建省卫生乡镇」。[1]

镇内侨胞众多，博雅地名网称侨亲分布于菲律宾、新加坡、马来西亚等十一个国家和地区，侨亲资助修建过中学、卫生院与村道。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

灵镇庙位于美寨村，始建于明初，后经重修，为悬山顶穿斗式砖木结构，庙内悬挂着明代状元庄际昌所书的匾额「飞炉古地」。2015年12月，该庙列入第五批县级文物保护单位。[5][8]

碧溪书院与夹际小学旧址都在夹际村，两处均于2020年12月列入第六批县级文物保护单位，详见夹际村。[6][9][10]
