美林村是蓬壶镇西部的行政村，又是革命老区基点村。村址距镇政府约5千米，蓬八公路横穿村前。村民多为林姓，村落总称儒林。[1][2]

地理环境[edit]

村位于五班山脉东南麓，地形由西北向东南倾斜，境内约三分之二是山体，其间夹有山谷与小盆地。村委会驻地儒林，海拔428米。[2]

地名由来[edit]

村落历史上称儒林，民间亲切地称为儒林边。1981年地名普查时改称美林，此名沿用至今。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

宋元清时期，此地属宣和乡升平里七都的儒林保。民国时先后属武陵区壶西乡与蓬壶乡。新中国成立后划归第三区、第四区及蓬壶区，并入蓬壶公社。[1]

1962年10月，此地析出独立建制，称儒林大队，辖区至今未变。[1]
