八乡村是蓬壶镇下辖的行政村，位于镇区西部，距镇区十多千米，海拔800多米，气候温和，夏季不热。[1][2]

地名由来[edit]

此村原由八处自然角落拼成。民国时把“三五”号改称“八乡”，寓意是先民开辟的根据地，居民来自多个姓氏。[1]

地理环境[edit]

全村散布于五个自然村落，依次为龙坑、岭头、格后、福坪与福坑，周围山上多竹林与松柏。村北与锦斗镇交界，西与玉斗镇交界，东南与达埔镇相接。[1][2]

村中还有红豆杉、穿山甲与金线莲等珍稀物种的记载，村内的道山岩供奉着玄天上帝。[2]

经济[edit]

村民以农业与林业为生计，主要种植水稻、地瓜、芦柑与茶叶，并饲养山羊、白鸭等。村里又新开发了油茶。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

明代此地属永春县七都，民国时期隶属某一个保。1958年划入蓬壶人民公社，编为八乡生产大队；1984年起，此处设村民委员会。[1]
