东山村位于小岞镇东北端，三面临海，一面靠山，以捕鱼为主业。[1]

地名由来[edit]

此地为小岞岛东部的高处，山头众多。明代黄氏村民由山腰的前黄迁来，在西侧山坡的台地上建居，村名取「东山」。[4]

历史沿革[edit]

明清时此地属三十一都黄坑埔，民国时属净峰乡东南保。1949年冬以后，先后归第三区、第四区的东南乡与东岭区小岞乡。[3]

1958年此地曾属飞跃公社东南大队，1961年分出，设小岞公社东山大队。1985年起，它成为小岞乡东山村委会。[3]

人口与产业[edit]

博雅地名网载全村人口3720多人，分8个村民小组，未注统计年份。村民以捕鱼为主业，兼营工商。村域有6海里长的海岸线，可供开发的浅海水面约150万平方米，并有后沃三级渔港。[1]

文化遗存[edit]

小岞东山城址位于村北，明洪武年间所建，原称小岞城，是明代沿海海防的要隘。现仅存北城拱门及两侧残墙，为县级文物保护单位（第二批）。[5]

城址南门内莲花山下有明建观音宫（莲花寺），后经修复。[2]
