村名与沿革[edit]
村名因境内有莲花峰与西房溪而来。峰顶为大片岩石，民间称其为莲花石；峰的南侧峭壁上刻着「莲花山涧」四个字。[1]
唐朝后期此地形成村庄，称小兜（小斗）。宋太平兴国六年（981年）惠安置县时属崇武乡守节里，明代为守御千户所驻地。民国时期，1934年归惠安县崇武第二自治区的区公所管辖，1939年又划入崇武乡莲西保。1961年崇武人民公社成立，此地设莲西生产大队；直到1984年才改称莲西村民委员会。[1]
名胜古迹[edit]
莲西街门建于20世纪五十年代，属近现代重要史迹及代表性建筑，古城内有两处。[1]
莲西典当厝为清末民初建筑，平面呈“回”字形，沿街立面为砖石混砌。莲西刘氏宗祠建于清末，1994年重修。莲西郑厝为清代古建筑。[1]
