历史沿革[edit]
明末清初有曾姓先人迁入此地，开村立业。村名由下山柄的“下”与厝西的“西”拼合而成，因“下”在闽南话中与“霞”读音相近。[1]
1941年以来，此地隶属下山柄堡。1949年后的一段时间里，它是崇武区辖下的下山柄乡，至1957年为止。1958年编入飞跃人民公社，成为霞西生产大队；1959年改归崇武人民公社。直到1984年，村民委员会才告设立。[1]
产业[edit]
石雕墓碑是村里的主要行业，由石材加工发展而来，20世纪90年代起成规模；近年借海西建设的机遇，村里也在发展第三产业，村内有多家酒店。[1]
