地名由来[edit]
宋代有埔塘孙氏的一位五世祖，名孙嘉靖安，带着子孙在此安家。他看到岩山南面、大岗山与塔仔山北面有一片开阔的草埔，中间是大池塘，便取名埔塘，后人雅称玉塘。《泉郡志》也记白云岩下有池名玉塘，村以塘得名。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
唐代此地属晋江辖地，宋代属惠安县，明代属二十五都镇安铺，清代沿用明制。民国时属东园镇。[1]
新中国成立后，本地先归第五区，后归第六区。1958年改属上游人民公社的张坂管理区，成为玉塘大队的一部分。1984年区域调整，这个大队分成三个行政村，本村保留埔塘西部半个自然村的旧名。[1]
名胜古迹[edit]
埔塘经幢由一对石构的陀罗尼经幢组成，最初立在白云庵前，北宋熙宁四年（1071年）建成。后来庵宇改建为博济侯宫（又称埔塘宫），经幢便移到宫前竖立。“文革”中经幢遭破坏，1990年旅居台湾的乡亲出资修缮，1991年完工。1992年11月，经公布，它成为惠安县第三批文物保护单位。[2]
