下堡村在河市镇东南部，东与溪头村相连，西与梧宅村相接，南与双阳街道的前洋村相邻，北临溪头村。[1][2]

村名的来历：明清时期倭寇侵扰，村民筑堡联防；民国时梧宅分为顶堡、中堡、下堡，因本村地势较低，遂称下堡。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

下堡在清代属吴宅社，即晋江县四十一都玉泉乡的一部分；民国时为河市区梧宅乡内的下堡。新中国成立之初，此地是第三区团结乡的下堡村，后划入第二区梧朝乡。1961年底自梧宅大队划出，单设下堡大队，1984年改称下堡村。[2]
