新步社区是浮桥街道下辖的社区，面积1.955平方千米，东面临晋江。据传古时此地新开过一片店铺，人们称之为新铺，后来「铺」与「步」读音相近，便成了新步[2]。
地理环境[edit]
社区东临晋江，西与坂头社区相邻，南侧以兴贤北路为界，与浮桥、石崎两个社区相接，北面与延陵社区相邻[1]。
社区有17个居民小组，代表共57名，常住居民1462人，另有户籍人口2915人[1]。
文化[edit]
社区2003年被泉州市委、市政府授予「宽裕型文明村」；2001年至2005年间，又先后获区委、区政府授予「宽裕型小康村」「旧村改造、新村建设先进单位」「先进基层党组织」等荣誉[1]。
名胜古迹[edit]
吴树第宅位于社区内，为清代建筑，市级文物保护单位[3]。
