开元社区是开元街道下辖的社区，位于鲤城区西北部，东与新春社区相邻，西与双塔社区交界。[2]社区名取自辖区西街上的开元寺。[1]社区内有蔡清故居和泉西基督教堂。[3][4][5]

历史沿革[edit]

解放前此地属晋江县温陵镇。1949年后归晋江县城关管辖，县市分治之后并入泉州市桐山区。1955年区建制撤销，改设泉州市第四街道办事处；1958年组建开元人民公社；1980年改为开元村委会，2002年村改居，设开元社区居委会。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

孝感巷24号处的蔡清故居，本是明代蔡清任江西提学副使时的宅第，明隆庆四年（1570年）转作蔡文庄公祠，清道光三十年（1850年）翻修过一次，1983年1月纳入文物保护。[3][4][6]

泉西基督教堂在本社区，年代为清代至民国，按文物类别归入近现代重要史迹与代表性建筑。[3][5]
