开元街道是福建省泉州市鲤城区下辖的一个街道，位于鲤城区东北部，辖区处在泉州古城的核心地带。[4][5]街道名取自辖区西街上的古刹开元寺，该寺为全国重点文物保护单位。[1][8]据区人民政府网站2015年刊载的街道概况，辖区内有各级文物保护单位15处，其中国家级3处。[4]

历史沿革[edit]

1951年，晋江县与泉州市分治，今辖区的新街、开元、梅石、东北、北门五条街划归泉州市桐山区管辖。[3]1955年设第四街道办事处，1960年撤销办事处，改设开元人民公社，并析出东升、新春、西门、梅山、北峰五条街，合为十条街。[3]1980年撤销人民公社，恢复街道建制。[3]

1984年恢复乡镇建制时，泉州市辖五个街道办事处，开元为其中之一，另四个为临江、海滨、鲤中和华大。[5]此后居委会陆续增设：1981年增置红梅、小山两个新村居委会，1982年原北峰公社的双塔大队划归街道，1990年增置刺桐新村居委会，1997年增置希夷、崇福居委会，同年再增西湖居委会，北山社区则于2015年10月设立。[3]

地理环境[edit]

街道在鲤城区东北部，南以东西街为界，北抵城西环路，东邻城基路，西接新华北路，并与鲤中街道和丰泽区的东湖、清源街道接壤。[4]区人民政府网站2015年刊载的辖区面积为3.38平方千米，博雅地名网所载为3.18平方千米，后者未注年份，因此以前者为准。[2][4]

文化[edit]

辖区内有大中小学校及幼儿园二十七所，泉州一中、培元中学等校集中于此，并有三甲医院两所。[4]

名胜古迹[edit]

开元寺位于西街176号。这座寺院最初叫莲花寺，建于唐代垂拱二年（686年），到开元二十六年（738年）才改用现名。[8][11]寺内的东西塔、大雄宝殿和甘露戒坛是常被提及的建筑，寺院现为全国重点文物保护单位。[8]

安礼逊图书楼在培元中学校园内，1927年由培元中学校友捐资建造，以纪念英国传教士安礼逊（1876年至1959年），他于1903年来泉州创办培元中学。[9][10]楼高五层，前四层为西式风格，第五层为中式楼阁，已列为全国重点文物保护单位。[9]
