村名来历是早年有人从泉州德化等地迁到此处，盼望过上新的幸福生活，于是称为新村。[1]

1984年2月设立新村民委员会，属青水乡；1987年10月，归青水畲族乡。[1]

村中有煤矿资源，收入一般靠烟叶之类农产的售卖，也有人外出做工。[1]

荣誉[edit]

2024年7月，村被命名为「2023年度三明市达标六无村（社区）」。[1]
