村民因库区移民搬迁至此另建新居，遂以“新建”为名。[1]

明清时期此地属永安县三十二都，民国时属安砂乡。[1] 1984年改设新建村民委员会，此后名称一直沿用，隶属安砂镇政府。[1]

文化[edit]

2024年6月，新建村入选「福建省第四批高级版绿盈乡村」名单。[1] 村为省级文明村。[1]
