历史沿革[edit]
村子位于桂溪与村内小溪的交汇处，村名由此而来。[1]明清时属二十七都，民国时属西洋乡。[1]此后先后归西洋区福庄乡、西洋区黄历乡、先锋公社、城郊公社和茅坪乡，1991年划入黄历街道，2002年设立村民委员会，归燕南街道。[1][2]
地理环境[edit]
村地形以平原和山地为主。大小两条桂溪在此汇合，上游均出自高山，落差大，水力资源丰富。[1]村里山林广阔，树种多样，有红豆杉、长苞铁杉、桂花等珍贵树木。[1]
经济[edit]
1938年，福建省建设厅开始在桂口村筹建水电站；它1940年1月投产，1943年7月才完全建成，装机容量264千瓦。据百度百科所载，它当时是福建最大的水电站。[2]
文化[edit]
2024年7月，桂口村被命名为2023年度三明市达标「六无」村（社区）；同年，它又被确定为2021至2023年三明市达标「六无」村（社区）。[1]
