廖元村地处泰宁县金湖下游一带，离梅口乡政府约10公里，下属七个自然村，其中有廖元、湖边、定尾、大山、焦家岭、邓家戈与官庄。[1]

地理环境[edit]

村名的来历是：廖氏在此开基定居，村名中的“元”即“源”的通假。[1]

全村分13个村民小组，有317户1211人，此数字未注明统计年份。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

宋元时期，村地归崇礼乡大田里依口保管辖；民国初至1931年属南乡。[2]

苏维埃时期（1931至1934年）村地归梅口区；1934年6月划归三区，1940年改入弋梅乡。1950年底至1951年底，这里设弋口乡政府，隶属三区；1952年分出另设乡，不久改称廖元乡，仍属三区；1954年一度析为两乡，1956年并回一乡，改隶弋口区。1958年改设生产大队，归红专公社管辖；1959年划归梅口公社。1984年9月20日改设村民委员会，名称一直沿用，归梅口乡管辖。[2]

文化[edit]

荣誉方面，2024年7月，村获「2023年度三明市达标六无村（社区）」命名。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

村内的文物古迹有江日彩衣冠墓（县级文物保护单位，明代）、廖元石拱桥（明代古建筑）、廖元淹没区墓群（宋至民国，位于湖边自然村）与廖元农业学大寨标语墙（1969年），均列入泰宁县第三次全国文物普查登记的不可移动文物。[3]
