游源之名，意为溪流的源头。朱溪发源于邵武市的道峰山，流经朱口镇上游，此村是溪流进入朱口境内后的第一个村庄，故名。[1]

2021年11月，游源村被福建省爱卫办命名为「2021年福建省卫生村」；2024年7月，列入三明市六无达标村（2023年度）名录，同月列入三明市六无达标村（2021至2023年度）名录。[1]
