村落四周是黄土山，中间有一条坑，后来写作「王坑」；方言中「王」与「黄」相通，王坑即黄土坑之意。[1]

王坑村沿朱青路一线分布，距集镇约3公里。村内紫色土壤连片，种植小籽花生、锥栗、莲子、烟叶等，其中小籽花生已获国家地理标志品牌。[2]

2020年12月，王坑村入选「2020年度福建省一村一品示范村」，产品为小籽花生；2021年4月，获三明市民主法治示范村（社区）称号；2022年9月，被推介为「2022年福建省美丽休闲乡村」；2022年12月，被命名为「2022年福建省卫生村」；2025年11月，被认定为「福建省第二批省级乡村振兴示范村」。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1931年至1934年苏维埃时期，王坑隶属朱口区苏维埃政府。1934年起归二区，1940年改属下东乡。1958年王坑设为生产大队，划归红星公社；1959年又改隶朱口公社。1984年9月，王坑由大队改为村民委员会。[3]
