前坪乡位于福建省三明市大田县东北部，东面与湖美乡相接，南面连均溪镇，西面靠太华镇，北面与文江镇、梅山镇相邻。全乡面积45.86平方千米，辖11个行政村，乡政府驻前坪村。乡境海拔约690至830米，银川矿区在全县和全省的矿业中地位突出。[1][2][3][4]

地名由来[edit]

据博雅地名网所载，蒋姓先祖自别处迁来，在前方一处山坪定居，故称前坪；乡政府驻地在前坪村，名称与之相合。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

关于本乡的隶属，博雅地名网记为明清时期属三十一都，又记1940年归文江区管辖；百度百科则称明朝时属尤溪县。两说并存，各自所据不同。[2][4]

1949年后，本地隶第七区，区署设于湖美；1956年划入湖美区，1958年归湖美公社。1961年自湖美公社析出，另设前坪公社；1970年两社并为湖美公社，1972年再度分设前坪公社。1984年9月，原前坪公社改设为前坪乡，此后沿用至今。[2][4]

政府所在地海拔771米。[1] 本乡属中亚热带季风湿润气候。[4]

银川矿区是本乡的矿产所在。县政府门户称，已探明的矿产共14余种，其中有铁矿、铅锌矿和石英石；博雅地名网另载为10余种，此处以县政府所载为准。[1][3]

人口[edit]

百度百科载2019年末户籍人口为7763人。[4] 县政府门户于2025年发布的乡镇概况载：户籍人口7656人；另有常住人口2700余人。[1]

经济[edit]

乡内有生姜、茶叶等特色农产品。拥有「高峰」金姜著名商标，并建有「省级生姜标准化建设示范基地」。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

银丁坂银矿遗址位于黎明村的大石磨山，见该村条目。[5]

荣誉[edit]

2021年2月，本乡列入「福建省2018-2020年度省级文明村镇社区」名单。[2] 本乡曾被评为省级文明乡镇和省级生态乡镇；乡内建有「退役军人思想政治教育基地」，为全省首批。[1]
