社区地处城区，辖内曾有赤色的岩石，故名。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
1997年10月，赤岩居委会成立；2011年12月，依田政文〔2011〕103号文件改设赤岩社区居民委员会，沿用至今。[1]
荣誉[edit]
2021年4月，社区被命名为「2021年三明市民主法治示范村（社区）」。[1]
2021年11月，福建省爱卫办命名社区为「2021年福建省卫生社区」。[1]
