历史沿革[edit]
宋代这一带隶属折桂乡仓盈团，明洪武年间归仓盈乡，清道光年间改属仓盈里。[2]
1932年，嵩口区苏维埃政府在此成立。1945年这里归复兴乡管辖；1950年起先后划入沙芜区、一区与嵩口区；1958年10月设卫星公社，1959年改称嵩口公社，直至1984年才设为镇。[2][3]
地理环境[edit]
镇区所在的坪地位于嵩溪汇入九龙溪的交汇口，因而得名嵩口坪，后简称嵩口。[4]
九龙溪在镇区附近改变流向，形成一片较为开阔的河谷。省道307线纵贯全镇，泉南高速公路在境内设有嵩口互通口。镇域内探明的矿产有稀土、萤石、锰、铜、铅和石英石等。[1][5]
经济[edit]
工业以林产加工、化工和选矿制造为主，近年来引进过环保设备、蛋鸡养殖、再生砖和硅制品等项目。[1]
农业方面，镇里种植油茶、烤烟和苗木，并养殖淡水鱼，其中清流溪鱼与嵩口油茶是镇里两个主要的特色农业品牌。清流县所获的“中国油茶之乡”“中国苗木之乡”称号，也有嵩口的一份。[1]
镇的荣誉：2020年11月获第六届全国文明村镇称号；同年12月，省爱卫办命名本镇为福建省卫生乡镇，本镇也被列入森林康养小镇名录（2020年，省级）；2021年2月，在省级文明村镇社区的名单中（2018至2020年度）；2021年8月，列入首批全国乡村旅游重点镇（乡）。[2]
名胜古迹[edit]
县政府的介绍提到，嵩口塘州到高赖之间约十公里的断裂带上，涌出的温泉有五处，这一带在福建省内温泉分布最为密集。[5]
高赖温泉在高赖村，平时水温在84℃以上，据泉华年代测定，泉群的形成可追溯到2.36万年以前。镇区东北面的天芳悦潭温泉度假村即利用这一泉源建成，获批为国家4A级旅游景区。[1][5][6]
月滩温泉在镇区西南约1.5公里处，出露于两条沟谷交汇处的西侧，常年水温63℃左右，属硫磺疗养温泉。[5]
镇内的历史古迹有魏氏宗祠、廊桥、嵩峰寺和真武庙等。[1]
文化[edit]
每年正月十二至十五日，围埔村举办三官大帝庙会，其间有抬古事、花灯、游神与唱大戏等活动。[1]
高赖村的抬龙灯闹元宵，至今已有数百年的传统。立新、高赖、马排等村属于革命老区，红军长征时曾经过此地。[1]
