锦湖村是湖源乡人民政府的所在地，村内有南洋自然村。村名取「锦湖」二字，据博雅地名网所载，寓意村民前程似锦。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

此地在明代属沙县仪奉团，入清后延续这一建制。[2]

1940年时归扬光乡管辖；1947年，此地的锦湖、龙凤两保都有村民居住。新中国成立初期隶属五区湖源乡，1955年改属洋溪区湖源乡。[2]

1958年取消区建制，仍归湖源乡治理；同年十月划入上游公社湖源管理区，编为三大队。1961年起归洋溪工委领导下的湖源公社，称湖三大队，1963年仍用此名。1984年公社体制撤销，改设锦湖村村民委员会，名称一直使用至今。[2]
