夏茂镇位于福建省三明市沙县区西北部，镇政府驻夏茂集镇。东面与高桥镇相邻，南面与富口镇相接，西面连着明溪县，北面与将乐、顺昌两县为邻。[1]
镇内以水稻、烟叶种植为主。20世纪90年代初起，夏茂人走出本地经营沙县小吃，这一产业由此在镇里发展起来。红边茶、花萘、冬酒获得国家地理标志证明商标。[2][3]
历史沿革[edit]
宋代这里隶属翔鸾乡，乡下分礼宾、化剑两里。元代改里为团，明代改团为都，明朝洪武八年设北乡寨巡检司，清代的建置大体沿袭明代。[4]
民国期间，这里先后归底北区、第七区管辖，1939年成为第二区署辖地，1943年隶属三组督导区。1949年5月夏茂解放，同年12月划归第四区。[4]
1958年10月，夏茂组建人民公社。1984年公社撤销，改设「夏茂镇人民政府」。2002年10月16日，梨树乡撤销后并入本镇。[4]
1928年夏，「中共沙县特别支部」在夏茂成立，隶属中共福建临时省委。据沙县区人民政府门户网站所载，它是闽西北地区最早的中共地下党组织。[2][5]
土地革命时期，红军先后两次驻进夏茂，彭德怀、滕代远与杨尚昆等老一辈革命家曾在这里发动群众。[2]

全镇面积，沙县区人民政府门户网站作248平方千米，百度百科作251.36平方千米。据博雅地名网，28.13万亩为林地，4.37万亩为耕地。[1][2][3]
气候属中亚热带海洋性季风类型。博雅地名网载，年均气温19.2℃，年均降水1700毫米，年日照1878小时。[3]
境内有福银高速、省道304线和向莆铁路经过，镇上设有高速公路出口，是通往将乐、泰宁、顺昌等县的要道。[3]

2019年末，全镇户籍人口46679人。[1]
沙县区人民政府门户网站2017年所载乡镇简介称，全镇户籍人口4.7万人，常住人口约1万人。[2]
经济[edit]
农业上，烟叶（1.1万亩）和优质稻（3.5万亩）是主要作物。茶叶之外，蔬果也有一定规模。[2]
20世纪90年代初，夏茂人率先走出山门经营沙县小吃，全镇近2万人曾在外经营。夏茂面干、冬酒、板鸭、烟丝等农产品也有所出。[2][3]
名胜古迹[edit]
天湖净寺在镇南约5千米的凤凰山上，山上海拔853米。寺院的始建时间为明朝天顺年间，即1457年至1464年。寺院今为尼众道场，「天湖」之名取自晨间云海如湖的景象。[6]
「中共沙县特别支部旧址夏茂文昌宫」在东街村，属清代建筑，坐北朝南，由碧霄殿与天章阁两部分组成，这处旧址于2018年列为第九批省级文物保护单位。[5]
「罗坑苏维埃政府旧址」位于罗坑村。这里在明洪武八年（1375年）开始修建，原名桃源洞，又名桃源洞别墅；1934年为苏维埃政府驻地，2018年列入第九批省级文物保护单位。[5]
东街村有罗邦塔；岩观村的邓氏家祠建于清代，李窠村的神兴庙重修于清光绪二十五年（1899年），后两者均为沙县第五批县级文物保护单位。[2][5]
荣誉[edit]
2014年7月，夏茂被「住房城乡建设部等七部委」确定为全国重点镇；2015年2月，中央文明委授予它「第四届全国文明村镇」称号。[9]
农业农村部把夏茂镇列入「第十一批全国一村一品示范村镇」，产品为沙县小吃；同月，又遴选推介它为「2021年全国乡村特色产业十亿元镇」。2022年4月，夏茂入选「2022年农业产业强镇」创建名单。[9]
著名人物[edit]
俞肇（南宋户部尚书）与罗英笏（清代武探花）都是这里的历史人物。[3]
张廷发籍贯福建沙县，1918年4月出生，2010年3月去世。他曾任中共中央政治局委员（第十一、十二届），并任空军司令员。夏茂镇简介将他列为本镇人物。[2][8]
邓子基（1923年6月至2020年12月22日）生于夏茂儒元村，为厦门大学资深教授，首次提出国家分配论。[7]
