根坑村位于凤岗街道东北端，是街道内海拔最高的区域。村子东面与村头村相邻，南面与西霞村相邻，西面和北面与高桥镇的村庄交界。村域面积24.12平方千米，是街道管辖面积最大的行政村，属沙县革命老区基点村。[1]
村名各取自自然村根竹坑的首字和卢坑的尾字。[2]
历史沿革[edit]
村子古属十都，建国后隶属高桥区，由高桥乡管。1958年公社化时，划入红旗人民公社；1962年成立大队，划归西霞公社。1984年改为根坑村委会，属西霞乡；2000年划归凤岗镇；2003年改为凤岗街道管辖。[2]

村内的自然村有根竹坑、卢坑、岩后、弓坑、下弓坑，共5个，分为10个村民小组。全村62种姓氏，人口前十三位的姓氏合计占92%。[1]
