历史沿革[edit]
土地革命时期，西际村地理位置特殊，成为红军重要的物资转运点。[2]
1933年起，村中余宁助开设的客栈成为红军的联络站，余宁助与余和顺担任联络员。[3]
1996年5月，时任福建省委副书记的习近平到村里调研，察看新村建设与柑桔嫁接推广的情况，并对村子今后的发展有所嘱托。[1]
经济[edit]
20世纪80年代，村支部带领村民开荒种桔。90年代，村中五名党员种植户赴中国农业科学院学习特早蜜桔与高位嫁接技术，柑桔产业逐步成形。[2]
此后村里培育出特早熟、早熟蜜桔，上市时间比一般品种提前约一个月。[2]
名胜古迹[edit]
村中的红色遗存包括树德堂、余宁助客栈与红军井，经修缮后纳入研学和生态旅游线路。另有西际乡党支部、农会旧址，位于锡光堂。[2][3]
文化[edit]
村子先后获得「全国文明村」「全国美德在农家示范点」等称号，并在民主法治与乡村治理方面受到表彰。[2]
