莘口镇位于福建省三明市三元区西南部，集镇距三明市区12公里。国道205线与省道306线在境内交汇，泉三、莆炎两条高速公路经过镇域并设有互通口。农业以柑桔、蔬菜和脐橙为主，镇名则来自旧时在溪中放运杉木的地名。[1][3]
地理环境[edit]
莘口镇东面与中村乡相接，南面与永安市贡川镇毗邻，西侧连着岩前镇，北侧与城东乡接壤。[3]
全镇辖区面积234平方公里，森林覆盖率为80.47%，这是三元区人民政府网站2024年5月刊载的介绍中的数字。[1]
集镇距三明市区12公里，国道205线与省道306线交汇于此，泉三高速与莆炎高速穿镇而过，两条高速在境内都设有互通口。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
镇名与旧时的木材运输有关：薯沙溪在此汇入沙溪，溪中曾放运杉木，地名先称杉口，后以谐音定为现名。[2]
据百度百科，宋代此地属沙县龙山乡归仁里。博雅地名网则称，明朝起直到三元设县之前，此地归沙县管辖，编为二十三都。[2][3]
三元设县之后，1940年起此地改归三元县管辖，当时设立莘阳示范乡，下设十四个保；到抗战结束的1945年，示范乡已改称莘阳乡。[2]
1958年撤区并乡后成立三明人民公社，莘口为其下属的分社；1960年，莘口改设为公社。[2]
1987年8月，莘口一带的街道办事处被撤并，原辖区域另设莘口镇。[3]

三元区人民政府网站2024年5月的介绍另给出常住居民的数字，约为0.8万人，与登记在册的户籍人口分开统计。[1]
经济[edit]
镇内设有汇华、黄砂、竹洲三个工业园区，其中黄砂一带的新材料循环经济产业园列入全省首批化工园区。[3]
农业以柑桔为主，西际村的蜜桔、沙阳村与楼源村的蔬菜基地、炉洋村的脐橙各有特色。[3][4][5][6][7]

镇级荣誉中，三元区人民政府网站列出的有「福建省抗击新冠肺炎疫情先进集体」「省级文明乡镇」和「省级文旅康养小镇」。[1]
博雅地名网列出的荣誉有：2024年1月命名的「2023年福建省卫生乡镇」，2022年12月的「2022年福建省森林城镇」，2021年11月的「2021年福建省级森林康养小镇」，2021年2月公布的「福建省2018-2020年度省级文明村镇社区」名单，以及2014年9月由环境保护部授予的「2012年—2013年度国家级生态乡镇」称号。[2]
名胜古迹[edit]
镇内的红色遗存以西际村为代表。西际村在土地革命时期是红军重要的物资转运站，村中的树德堂、余宁助客栈、红军井等经修缮后，被纳入研学和生态旅游线路。[4]
著名人物[edit]
西际村人余宁助（1901年—1935年）幼时跟随父亲学武，此后又跟着江湖艺人在闽西北、闽赣边一带辗转。1928年他返回西际村，靠经营客栈谋生，1934年5月他成为中国共产党员。[2]
