社硎乡位于福建省莆田市仙游县中西部山区，东边与菜溪乡相连，南边靠书峰乡，西北与西苑乡接壤，乡政府驻社硎村。乡境面积据百度百科为77.5平方千米，博雅地名网则记为75.7平方千米。[1][2]
全乡农业以水稻、甘蔗和竹木为主。乡内有中共闽南（闽中）特委的旧址，以及几处祠堂与寺庙，它们大多被列为仙游县一般不可移动文物点。[2][3][4][5][6][7]
历史沿革[edit]
据博雅地名网所载，“社硎”一名的来历是这样的：明代谢氏为避战乱迁居此地，沿溪垦田，起名“谢墘”。清初谢姓人口渐少，凤山豸硎一带的人迁入，因“谢”与“社”在莆田话中同音，又取原籍豸硎中的“硎”字，两字合称社硎。[2]
宋代此地属仙游县归德乡；1944年划归兴安乡，1949年并入仙游县第八区。[2] 新中国成立后，此地先后归八区与社硎区管辖。1958年9月组建社硎人民公社，1984年12月才改设社硎乡。[1][2]
地理环境[edit]
乡境位于仙游县中西部山区，气候属南亚热带山地季风气候。[1] 博雅地名网又称仙书、仙社、仙象三条公路穿过全乡。[2]
人口民族[edit]
百度百科载，截至2019年末，乡户籍人口14024人。[1] 博雅地名网另记人口约3506人，未注明统计口径；其概况又写作“人口1.3万”。三处数字并不一致，此处取百度百科的户籍数，并注明年份。[2]
文化[edit]
2024年1月，全乡被命名为「2023年福建省卫生乡镇」；2021年3月，被确定为「莆田市第十五届市级文明村镇（社区）」；环境保护部在2012年12月授予「2010—2011年度国家级生态乡镇」称号。[2]
名胜古迹[edit]
田利村葫芦坵一带是中共闽南（闽中）特委的活动地。据博雅地名网，1942年初，邱子国、蔡文焕等人到仙游开辟据点，特委机关在田利罗木坑、葫芦坵一带活动了三年多，驻落尾石洞；1943年2月改称闽中特委。[3][8]
落尾石洞的旧址占地120平方米，仙游县人民政府于2003年初竖碑纪念。[3]
乡内几处古建筑属于仙游县一般不可移动文物点，它们是：卓林池后31号的卓山祠、湖洋村外枯自然村的郑氏祠堂、社硎村乌炳内的陈氏祠堂、修园村修园自然村的普德书院，以及塘西村塘西自然村的西国寺。[4][5][7][9][6]
