历史沿革[edit]
1961年11月，此地改设盖尾公社，公社机关随后迁往街市所在地。1984年12月改为盖尾乡，1992年11月乡改为镇。[1]
2002年，芹林、盖南与新窑三村自郊尾镇转归本镇。[1][5]
在新中国成立前，镇内各村多属香北乡，1950年代先后归三区、四区与盖尾区管辖，1958年并入盖尾公社。[5]
地理环境[edit]
木兰溪是莆田市第一大河，流经镇域北部与中部，沿岸多为村落所在。[6]
名胜古迹[edit]
龙纪寺位于后山村后山村院里自然村，是镇内的一座古寺。百度百科记其始建于汉末，唐龙纪元年扩建，博雅地名网则记为始建于唐。寺院现存的主体建筑，是清光绪二十五年由瑞义祖师主持重建的六角亭与佛祖殿，殿中供奉清末德化瓷雕五百罗汉。[3][4]
