锦田村位于赖店镇南部，村名寄寓衣食丰足、田地充裕的美好愿望。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

据博雅地名网，明代中期已有人在此开族定居，时间约在1522年至1566年之间。[1]

新中国成立前，此地归城南乡，1944年时仍分为蒋埔保、前厝保两个保。解放后归属多次变动：先隶一区，又入二区，后划山尾区，1956年改归城关区。1957年锦田与坂头合并；1958年至1960年，它与坂头、留仙、象岭共组一个大队，此后于1961年分开，另设锦田生产大队。1984年10月改设锦田村民委员会，隶赖店乡，1992年起属镇。[1]

文化[edit]

2012年1月，福建省人民政府把锦田村认定为「第四批福建省历史文化名镇名村」。2021年3月，村庄被确定为「莆田市第十五届市级文明村镇（社区）」。2024年1月，村庄被命名为「2023年福建省卫生村」。[1]
