西山村地处郊尾镇西北一带，东面是后面村，西面靠着盖南村，南边与湖宅、梅塘相连，北边隔着盖尾镇的前连村。村子海拔32.9米，东北一侧地势高于西南。[1]

村名来自东侧的一座山，山形像狮子；“狮”与“西”在方言里读音相同，于是改称西山。[1]

2024年1月，村子获评「2023年福建省卫生村」。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

西山村原与后面村是同一个村，明清两代属香田里，民国时称西山保，归香田镇。1952年与埔尾合并，组成前进乡；1956年6月又划归田头乡。[1]

1958年9月成立前进大队，1962年后面村析出后，本村改称西山大队。1984年12月设立西山村村民委员会，隶属郊尾乡，1985年3月起属郊尾镇。下辖西游、过山、西山、桥头、埔尾五个自然村。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

西山林氏民居在桥头自然村，属古建筑，为仙游县一般不可移动文物点。[1]

西山苏氏祖居位于埔尾窑边自然村，西山林元泉民居位于过山自然村，两处同为古建筑，并列为仙游县一般不可移动文物。[1]
