霞街社区在枫亭镇的中心区域：南面是霞桥社区，东侧接辉煌村，北边为铺头社区，西面隔着枫慈溪，与兰友社区相望。[1]

社区名称有两种说法。一说它地处枫慈溪下游，原称下溪；一说太平桥以东原称下街。两说都因方言谐音而改称霞街。[3]

历史沿革[edit]

宋至明代，这里叫作枫亭市。清朝时它又叫枫亭驿，归连江里管。民国时与霞桥组成双霞保，归枫亭镇。[2]

新中国成立后，这里先后称为双霞乡与斗南乡；1962年改名霞街，隶属枫亭公社。1968年成立霞街革委会，1984年底改设霞街居委会，隶枫亭乡。2005年改称社区居民委员会，归属枫亭镇。[2]

文化[edit]

2021年11月，霞街社区获福建省爱卫办授予「2021年福建省卫生社区」称号。[1]
