村民由仙游县坂头镇的同名砺山村迁至此处，沿用了旧名。该村是老区革命基点村。[1]

文化[edit]

砺山村于2021年3月入选「莆田市第十五届市级文明村镇（社区）」，同年11月获福建省爱卫办授予「2021年福建省卫生村」称号。[1]
