历史沿革[edit]
村名由来已见上文。民国年间此地曾单设一乡，下辖五个自然村；建国初期一度设过区公所驻地。1952年后并入月塘乡的范围，1958年划为月塘大队的一部分，1989年独立为霞塘村。2019年11月4日，又成立霞塘社区居委会，隶属月塘镇。[1]
名胜古迹[edit]
霞峰书院在霞塘社区，书院由唐选元承继祖父唐志鹏之志兴办，乾隆末年开工，嘉庆三年（1798年）主体完成。1960年书院被毁，1996年乡民集资重建。现存石构二进式院落，前殿奉祀朱子、文昌帝君与魁星，留有清嘉庆年间的石刻和原构石鼓。左侧的冲山宫建于1803年（清嘉庆八年）。[2]
文化[edit]
霞塘社区于2020年11月获认定为「2020年度莆田市中级版绿盈乡村」，2024年6月列入「福建省第四批高级版绿盈乡村」名单。[1]
