山亭镇隶属福建省莆田市秀屿区，位于区境东南部，由湄洲湾北岸经济开发区管委会管辖，下辖5个社区和10个行政村。[1][4]

镇域东面濒临平海湾，与平海镇隔海相望，南面与湄洲镇相对，西接东埔镇，北邻忠门镇。境内以低丘台地为主，沿海一带为平原。[1][3]

历史沿革[edit]

宋元时期此地属莆田县崇福乡，明代称第七区。[1]

1997年10月，忠门镇的行政区划作了调整，增设山亭、东埔、月塘三个乡，其中山亭乡于2010年改设为山亭镇。[1][2][3]

2007年3月，本地划归湄洲湾北岸开发区管委会管辖。[1]

镇名取自旧时五里亭与南山等地，两处地名各取一字合成「山亭」。[3]

行政区划[edit]

按博雅地名网的城乡分类，利山社区属主城区，山亭社区与西埔口村属城乡结合区，其余多为村庄。[3]

2015年1月，利山社区与山亭社区由村改为社区；东仙社区同年更名为社区居民委员会。[3]

地理环境[edit]

境内地势以低丘台地为主，沿海为平原，气候属南亚热带海洋性季风型，台风是主要的自然灾害。[1]

面积一说为41.42平方千米（百度百科），博雅地名网则记作约29平方公里，两说不同，二者照录。[1][3]

截至2019年末，户籍人口为70686人。[1]

经济[edit]

蒋山村养殖紫菜，2020年12月入选「2019年度福建省一村一品示范村」名单，产业为紫菜养殖。[10]

名胜古迹[edit]

港里村的贤良港天后祖祠，又称敕封天后祠，为妈祖出生地故居。百度百科记为省级文物保护单位，维基百科则记为第三批福建省文物保护单位。[5][6]

莆禧村的莆禧古城为明代抗倭所筑的军事城堡，现存城墙约1335米，是福建省文物保护单位，2007年命名为福建省国防教育基地。[7][8]

东乌垞村的东乌垞黄氏民居为清代建筑，系莆田市第九批市级文物保护单位，建筑面积823平方米。[9]

东仙社区的紫霄洞又名仙光洞，据博雅地名网所载位于普陀山上，与湄洲岛隔海相望。[3]
