名称由来[edit]
村庄建在南日岛东部的一个小山顶上，村民以生产紫菜谋生，故先称「东菜」；当地方言习惯读作东岱。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
约200年前，胡、魏、王三姓先后自晋江与福清迁来，在岛上最末端的小山顶建村。解放后村旁有一座大峤山，遂以山代村，此后改名东岱村。[2]
此地在宋元隶感德乡南匿里，明清隶四区南匿里。民国初归省府直接管辖，民国23年（1934年）属福清县九区，民国24年至25年改属南日特种区，民国29年划归莆田县南日镇，民国32年（1943年）称南日镇东菜尾村。[2]
1961年设东岱生产大队，归莆田县南日人民公社管辖。1976年改称南日乡东岱村；自1993年起隶莆田县南日镇。至2002年2月，莆田县撤销，村庄改属秀屿区南日镇。[1]
村况[edit]
村委会统辖1个自然村，设1个村民小组。全村268户、1111人，博雅地名网未注年份。聚落形似粪箕。[2]
耕地100亩，甘薯、大小麦为主，兼种大豆、花生；林地100亩，以木麻黄与相思树为主。土特产有鱼虾与紫菜。村内有小学与医疗所，有电灯，村道可通公路，有客车。[2]
荣誉[edit]
2021年11月，东岱村获「2021年福建省卫生村」称号。[1]
