西高村为南日镇下辖的行政村，在镇政府驻地东侧约4.5公里，位于沙洋村与三墩村之间，村委会驻企下自然村。[1][2]

名称由来[edit]

约200年前，有人从福清县坂头场迁来建村。村庄三面临海，居中而立，村址在一座名为马鞍山的小山顶上，原名「西皋」。后来与沙泽分村，因「皋」与「高」同音，写作西高。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

此地在宋元隶感德乡南匿里，明清隶四区南匿里。民国初归省府直接管辖，民国23年（1934年）属福清县九区，民国24年至25年为南日特种区，民国29年划归莆田县南日镇西皋村。[2]

新中国成立后，1949年属十三区西皋村，1950年改称西高乡，1952年属二十四区西皋乡，1954年至1955年称西沙乡。1957年为南日镇西沙高级社，1958年为南日公社西沙大队，1961年改称西高大队，1984年设南日镇西高村委会。[2]

村况[edit]

村委会辖5个自然村，设6个村民小组。博雅地名网记为403户、2099人，未注年份。村落呈长方形。[2]

耕地1324亩，甘薯为主，兼植大小麦、大豆、花生；林地500亩，多为木麻黄与相思树。土特产有对虾与紫菜。村中有小学、医疗所，有电灯，岛上公路通全村，有客车。[2]

荣誉[edit]

2023年11月，村庄被认定为「2023年度莆田市中级版“绿盈乡村”」。[1]
