嵌头村的名称来自地形似嵌入山头之中。村为革命老区基点村。[2][1]

历史沿革[edit]

1918年，此地归埭头七区嵌头乡管辖；解放后曾属12区嵌头乡。1965年归平海公社嵌头大队，1984年，此地改称平海乡嵌头村委会；1994年归莆田县平海镇管辖。[1]
