赤坡村因土壤呈红色、村落坐落于坡上而得名。村内保存完整的龙津宫是清代建造的妈祖宫。[2][3]

历史沿革[edit]

赤坡在民国初年属平海区，1918年归埭头区，1928年改属平海五区。1932年设赤坡乡，解放后仍称赤坡乡。1958年划入埭头公社赤坡大队，1966年改属平海公社。1984年改设赤坡村委会（隶属平海乡），1994年归莆田县平海镇，2002年改属秀屿区。村庄是革命老区基点村。[1]

文化[edit]

龙津宫（妈祖宫）建于清朝。奉香的人员为全村村民及卓东村后楼、江尾、芹山三个自然村的村民，共11000多人（博雅地名网）。[2]
