平海社区是平海镇政府的驻地，濒临平海湾。它旧称南啸、平海卫，明代这里是平海卫城所在。2019年1月，原平海村改设为社区。平海天后宫、平海卫城隍庙等历史建筑位于社区内。[1][2][4]

历史沿革[edit]

地名的来历据博雅地名网所载：此地位于兴化府南部沿海，海面风平浪静，因而得名。[5]

社区先后称南啸、平海卫，明代属福建沿海的十六卫城之列（百度百科）。1984年12月，平海村改为平海镇平海村委会；2019年1月8日，秀屿区政府批复设立平海社区居民委员会，原村委会改为社区。[2][4]

地理环境[edit]

平海湾是莆田三大湾之一，社区沿湾而建，湾岸有金色沙滩与形态各异的海滩岩，滨海旅游的条件由此而来（博雅地名网）。[1][3]

文化[edit]

平海天后宫位于社区东至自然村，平海卫城隍庙在社区西北，两处文物的沿革与等级见平海镇条目。[1]

社区的荣誉与认定：2019年6月，列入第五批中国传统村落名录；2022年11月，列入2022年福建省「金牌旅游村」名单；2023年11月，本社区进入莆田市中级版「绿盈乡村」的当年名单；2024年12月，本社区列入福建省「儿童友好社区」的2024年名录。[1][2][6]
