霞东村位于平海湾畔，东峤至赤岐公路从村庄中部穿过。村名中的“霞”是“下”字的谐音美化，村址原属下屿村，1994年分村后位于东侧。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
1994年，原下屿村以下屿中学为界分为东西两个行政村，东侧即霞东村。2002年属莆田市秀屿区东峤镇。[1]
文化[edit]
2022年10月，霞东村经福建省农业农村厅认定为「第二批福建省乡村治理示范村镇」；2021年3月，被确定为「莆田市第十五届市级文明村镇（社区）」。[1]
