据当地传说，赤岐一带原为海域，后因地壳变动而成陆，故取“赤”字；另取旧时岐山境的“岐”字，合称赤岐。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

新中国成立初期，本地为第十二区的赤岐乡。1952年隶第十八区，1955年改隶第十九区，1957年归笏石公社，1961年转入铁炉公社，1965年改归东峤公社，1971年称赤卫大队。1984年又为东峤乡赤岐村，1992年改设东峤镇赤岐村委会，2002年并入秀屿区。2016年，村委会搬往原岐新小学地址。[1]
