湖柄村的村名据称与宋末元初陈氏族人迁居此地有关：村址背靠后海岑、前有湖泊，又有土坝挡风，故取“湖”“坝”二字，后“坝”字改作“柄”。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
1958年归笏石公社，1961年改隶上塘公社的汀塘大队，1965年隶东峤公社汀塘大队，1971年又划入东峤公社红湖大队。1984年设湖柄村委会，隶东峤乡；1992年归东峤镇，2002年并入秀屿区。[1]
文化[edit]
2021年11月，湖柄村被福建省爱卫办命名为「2021年福建省卫生村」；2021年3月，被确定为「莆田市第十五届市级文明村镇（社区）」。[1]
