历史沿革[edit]
宋元时期，此地属莆田县崇福乡；明代，崇福乡改称第七区。[1]1958年设忠门公社，1984年改为忠门乡，1988年设立忠门镇。[2]
1996年时，全镇辖41个行政村和2个居委会。[2]1997年，经省民政厅同意，从忠门镇析出山亭、东埔、月塘三个乡，同年11月实施。[2][3]
2007年4月，忠门镇改属秀屿区，并归湄洲湾北岸开发区管委会管辖。[4]
地理环境[edit]
境内多为海拔120米以下的丘陵。气候类型为南亚热带海洋性季风，平均气温约20℃，雨量每年约1200毫米。[1][3]
莆文公路与忠东公路在镇中交汇，形成人字形路网，贯穿全镇南北两端，202省道过境。[2][3]
镇域面积的记载有两种：百度百科为19.84平方千米，区划地名网与维基百科为31.5平方千米，三者均未注明统计年份。[1][2][3]
